Ok, I know the preferred choice is a 2nd gen Camaro or the G body GMs. But here's the issue I have. My cousin's all race locally and I've been in the military for some time now. Finally got orders back to Drum, NY and I really want to be able to sit down behind a wheel and get on the track. I'm tired of relying on RC cars to try to tame the itch. I found a good deal on a race ready kart and going that direction. My thoughts are with my uncertain career, I can easily move a kart from one place to the other. Also, I don't need much garage space, don't need to buy another truck and trailer to tow, etc. However my cousin is hounding me left and right to not go with the karts. He's trying to sell me his dad's old car. It's a 3rd Gen Camaro and I believe it was a decent car back in the day against the Pure Stocks or old street stock class. However, the track doesn't even offer that class any more. They have a Pro Stock style class with an open V8 up to 417 or crate GM 602, aftermarket bodies, etc. I'm trying to convince this guy it's a no go. Has anyone had success with this strut chassis? I'm sure a good whack in the front would screw it all up. I'm sure I could refab up a front end with tubing to tie into the upper strut mount and then be able to cut out the inner fenders but for what? I don't think anyone even makes sheet metal for this car. If there was a pure stock class I'd consider it. But since there isn't, I feel I'd just be in the rear packing the track.
