I have 2 sets of gears. Set #8A and #22. Can I take 19 teeth gear from set #22 and pair it up with 23 teeth gear from set #8A to come up with a set #9 ? Not sure if you can mix and they will work properly ? Thanks, VintageMod

Do not mix and match, you are asking for trouble. Each set wears a certain way and doesnt like to be upset. You will screw up 2 sets of gears when you should have just bought 1 set. JMO

Swapped a plenty but had a chart, Bing it to Winters or Quarter Master! Running in good oil they never touch but a cheat sheet helps on cans and don'ts! Two sides to each gear and what good is all if not used when needed, even for a test run!

Swapped a plenty but had a chart, Bing it to Winters or Quarter Master! Running in good oil they never touch but a cheat sheet helps on cans and don'ts! Two sides to each gear and what good is all if not used when needed, even for a test run! I guess there is a difference between junk yard racing and what I do. In UMP A Mod land, with HP north of 700, the manufacturers dont even recommend running a gear set more than 40 nights without replacing them, due to potential failure and the carnage that will happen to your center section. A mismatched set will run way hotter and that will cause the problem. FlipFlop knows everything, just put some STP in there and a hand full of sawdust and it will be fine. Never seen one guy destroy a website like this dude. Dave

I was referring to oils of today and a test run in order to not spend needlessly before certain of the choice !A chart tells which is correct! Some may need more help than you are giving! You should post more good info of todays world in racing how-to! Most would prefer more than one opinion or option! You guys just Quit Helping!

We all quit posting because you just flood every post with BS and junk yard bailing wire fixes. I dont even come on here very often any more because of all your crap posts. You create a post and answer yourself! LOL, just to have something to type! Everything you have to offer is way to out dated. Things have changed 100% in the last 5 years alone. You are out of touch with current equipment! Post on the Pure Stock threads, maybe you can help someone there.

This question intrigued my daughter so she asked around in the pits fri. and sat. night. All answered it was not a good idea but with different reasons. Mostly wear pattern. Today she found 2 gear sets, both containing a gear with same number of teeth. Both sets same brand bought new in last 2 years. The gears were different in depth and pitch. This may not hold true in all sets but it convinced me its not a good idea to mix sets. Just my 2 cents, Phantom309

If you don't have a chart and don't know about gears and oils, is isn't hard to get in trouble with gears or heat factors on anything! Even posting all you do know about in todays world! Nice to hear a honest answer or even a b/s one sometimes to decide or at least stir the mix to get people concerned enough to know or search the truth to know for them selves the difference! If all things related were equal in set-ups, some info might would be true! Cars now still winning and others improving first time out in mods up north with my help in messaging! I do agree with Dave in that more opinions with less B/S are needed on this site! All set-ups as in gears are not the same once ran! Even polarity by friction and reversing that sends the molecular level of charge back past O where stress is greatest by heat transfer taking place by friction and magnetism of direction change! A Master set with all and chart shows the differences you can swap to get there with gears marked clearly by dia. and pitch! Your job to keep the used direction of sets marked unless de-polarized first! More B/S in some circles I am sure, but quite apparent in mine as to friction and heat factors! Flipping or changing either dealing with rotation direction is detrimental to composition! A many new engine rod bolt has been broken by not keeping direction in mind with out pinging or neutralizing first if used on the wrong side of the engine! Many a time back to the machine shop with pressed pistons to correct this mistake to limit failure of the new and old getting along!
