I am looking to get about 10-20 more horsepower out of my stock class figure 8 car without tearing down the motor and emptying my pockets to do it. We are almost there to our first feature win we just need a little more pony's to get there. I have a 74 monte carlo with a goodwrench 350 crate motor and a th350 trans. the carburetor is a jet Rochester and it is as big as I can run. im Running a gm 8.5 rear end with 342 gears and I cant run any lower than 342. any idea's would be very appreciated. thanks!!

I have already posted most all I know in hopes someone can find a few more! Run some searches to see a few most miss!!! Here is one thing that I found out, where stress and friction happens, horses are lost! Not all are quite visable but in thought! So just start thinking about every little thing that moves! Valve spring pressures with pressure stress on push rods and stock style intake rockers broken or exhaust studs pulled into after the fact of damage of the intake rocker showed the signs of horses lost to me! A split in the spring pressures by lowering the intake spring pressure stopped the dammage and WOW the freedom it gave to let the horses run! (Take in consideration the RPMs and exhaust pressures needed first!) Excessive vacuum building up when lifting added to this pressure of closed and the limits of force needed to push it open! Also it may have added a bit more flow by delaying the closing at higher RPMs thus altering cam specs for the better in this application!!! GO FIGURE!

I would also jut my preference go with a Holley and do away with that Crapchester or I Mean Rochcester Carb -- if you decide to use the 1.5 inch spacer I would go with at least the Holley 750 as minimum the 850 Preferred -- I hope this helps you out
