Having an issue with the powerglide trans slipping while in low gear at high RPM's. Last year the car revved 6600 every straightaway, now its going up to 7800, still seems to be pulling but I don't like the engine RPM's that high, any advice ?

Set-ups and car times may have improved speeds to be higher--A gear change might be your only cure! 626 at 6400-6900 won most of our races in limited class at 2350 pounds! At 2850 pounds a 650 was at 8300 but motor horses comes into play, that and just hauling ass! I tend to squeeze a bit more than most! You do have different raitos in a glide and cavitation is possible if filter or fill level is off as they do have deeper pans and lower filters or spacers to help! You can test pressure on the side! If slipping it would burn it up quickly!!! Smell fluid and check color and filter and fill to level with dip-stick hole at pan!!! Type F fluid is a bit thicker than dextron!!!
Give us the class weight and ratios to see how they match up --estimated horses! Times on track length-- If handling and hooking great ECT...

Low gear in a glide runs off of the low gear band, it can be tightened if its not worn out, or it needs the band replaced.

There are two 1st gear ratios, 1.76 and 1.82. Possibly did you swap out the 1.76 glide for a 1.82 ratio trans? In 1st it is all mechanical with the band on the drum. Dave is right, worn or needs an adjustment. The pump could be bad too, trash or worn parts. Need to pull pump housing and check-modify It's the 'offseason check trans.

IF NOT FILLED PROPERLY, CAVITATION CAN HAPPEN PUTTING AIR INTO THE SYSTEM! A FILTER SPACER OR A DEEPER PAN AND LOWER DRAW FILTER MAY CORRECT IT ALL!!!
