I'm aiming for a particular wheel offset. Set-up sheets normally refer to it as wheel offsets. I have a few guys telling me the set-up sheets are actually referring to backspacing. Since these are 2 different measurements, which one am I after? Thanks!

As startinonthetail said. Everybody talks backspace. That's what you want to use. Don't over think it Wheels come in 1",2", 3", 4" backspace.

Somehow, over the years, 'offset' became 'backspace'… the wheel manufacturers always used 'offset' but it seems those magazine guys invented their own word and it stuck.

Each set-up uses different offsets to change roll center effects and spring leverage to strengthen or weaken a springs movement! Depending on other peoples set ups and how their car reacted to a spacer or off-set change is some times reversed by the other 20 things changed by a 1/2" spacer! This is depending mostly of how your springs fight for position of the chassis balance and getting the leverage correct to the spring rate and it's compressed height! If a chassis has a good working range of compressed heights, these space changes are minimal! you then can use them as a roll out factor, tracking off set, or roll factor while the chassis reacts very close to the same by only changing 5 things! That is if you still need a change! I do not like changes as to the unforeseen effects that they carry with them! We only run 2 different off-sets! A 3 left rear and 2s everywhere else on my set-up with studs short as not to allow even a 1/4 spacer as no changes are needed other than the turning of steering wheel to have a different car lean, spring poundage, looser or tighter, traction to the right or left rear! Even air pressure changes are a mistake as they work like spring rates too, with extra ills of their on! Understanding each change per total car is the only hope we have to bettering any chassis' handling, except or excluding for drivers taste!

Just a simple change on the least affected wheel, left front! Camber was changed as leveraged different to the spring! Spring poundage was changed as to spindle angle pointing down! Tracking, braking, transfer of weight, all static settings, and yes, when you turn it changes bump steer! Others I am sure as my set-up has the greatest poundage of weight on the preloaded softer ft. spring in this location and is most critical to changes! Roll out or off-set changes on any corner can be major!

Thanks Krooser. I have a couple fellow racers that were looking at me cross eyed. I haven't won a championship on the dirt, but I know offset and backspacing a 2 different #'s.
