A little lift can be yours to have and to hold or loose your lost love of horses in trying! A tester may help some but I had to throw mine away after fudging a bit to see what I had been missing! The short end of the proverbial stick has a generous effect when trying to get all you can quicker! Once at .050 or .020 open, (depending on valve size and cut as to flow taking place sooner or later) means a bit more than a few thousands of lift after the fact! More of a roller cam effect is happening, giving a bit more on both ends of the pulling range of horses! While stud flex is a down side, getting lower on the stud has its perks also! Classes with 3/8 stud rules can benefit from a angle change to match geometry head on! Getting the valve height matched out to a desired push rod length with cam circles and core shift can get technical as to lifter heights and adjustment heights! On the top or bottom of hydraulics has some perks too! Don't feel too bad with only five different lengths of push rods in your engine to get all the opening and closing numbers the same! If you think that is where they need to be! It does however make tuning from there a bit easier per cylinder!
