hi I have been considering swapping the cam in my stock class figure 8 car. its a good wrench crate 350 all stock. I would just buy a popular cam and slap it in but the problem is I have to pass a rule that states that the motor must carry 18 inches of vacuum at 1000 rpm. rule also states no solid cams. what is the biggest cam I can put in my motor and still have 18 inches of vacuum at 1000 rpm? any suggestions would be much appreciated. thanks!!

Tough call always with vacuum involved! Lots of things you can do to improve what you have -- check out the searches for more detailed info! Use key words to find more!

I have used the Comp.552H cam and the torque was amazing! If I remember correctly more lift and less duration than stock-- I shimmed the springs up .060 and adjusted the valves down and off the bottom .020 to make it run more like a solid!!! .100 longer push rods and 1.6 rockers makes it more like a roller effect! It really breathes well!

I can run your numbers through my cam design software. You just need to give me the input parameter values, which are displayed in white background boxes.

Our limited mod rules said HYD. cam-- 12 inches at 1200 and 450 lift max! A tall order with a 318-336-450 lift cam but I got it to pull 12.25 inches! Geometry and a little clearance can do wonders with out bleed off lifters!!! This modified the whole aspect of this cams profile in every respect! You would be hard pressed to get there with a roller at .020-.050 in ramp design and seperation with the use of 1.6 rockers! A split in valve springs was needed to ballance the difference in the vacuum holding the valve shut harder on the intake and breaking things! The loss of reversion took a lot more fuel and timing but it loved to win with stock parts!!! Some used to think the earth was flat and that piston speed could not exceed 500 mph but they found it was an oval world and that stock parts can win 86 percent of the time in 4 states for a period of 2.5 years! I'm just saying guys-- USE YOUR THOUGHTS TO WIN!!! Choosing a cam is often a shot in the dark so I choose a bigger gun to start with!!!
