Forsberg, Shelby, Marino Win Silver Dollar Speedway Features
Chico, CA...June 8...Andy Forsberg scored the victory in the 25 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. Forsberg is the reigning champion, and he had to battle 2016 champion Sean Becker for the win. The two ran closely down the stretch as Forsberg made Becker settle for second. Medford, Oregon competitor Jake Wheeler held off Kalib Henry in a close battle for third. Michael Ing settled for fifth, followed by Kenny Allen, Kyle Offill, Korey Lovell, Ryan Souza and Brent Bjork, who was the final lead lap finisher.
Forsberg bested a 24 car field in qualifying with the only 11 second lap of 11.980. Becker had a 12.017 to set second quick time. DJ Freitas grabbed the first eight lap heat race victory ahead of Shawn Conde. Michael "Buddy" Kofoid won the second heat ahead of Lovell, and the third heat victory went to Kirt Organ in a good battle with Henry. Kyle Offill won the final heat ahead of Mason Moore. Justin Cox dominated the B Main by over half a lap ahead of Brandon Powell, Wheeler and John Clark.
Reigning IMCA Sport Modified champion Philip Shelby returned and won the 20 lap Main Event. Shelby ran strong down the stretch and grabbed the victory ahead of Andrew Peckham. Damian Merritt settled for third, just ahead of Phil Marino and past Crate Sprint champion Mike Ficklin. Jimmy Ford placed sixth, followed by Kiely Ricardo, Tyler Rodgers, Matt Micheli and Gary Barnes. Keith Brown Jr. had finished third, only to be disqualified in post-race Tech. Ficklin won the first eight lap heat race ahead of Micheli. Brown outdueled Rogers to claim the second heat race win.
Reigning Street Stock champion Phil Marino won the 20 lap Main Event. Marino won by nearly a straightaway, leaving the battle for second. Reigning Placerville Limited Late Model champion Matt Micheli outdueled Cory Hall for the second spot. Clinton Earl was a solid fourth as Leif Berglund, Gary Newman and Richard Workman completed the finishing order. Hall won the heat race in front of Berglund.
Reigning champion Kyle Allen grabbed the victory in the 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event. Allen and reigning Orland Raceway champion Jeremy Langenderfer had a good battle up front with Allen prevailing at the checkered flag. Recent Orland winner Paul Stevens was a distant third, followed by Shannon Collins, Mel Byers, Colin Ferguson, James West, past Antioch Speedway champion Dan McCown and Jim Brookshire. Langenderfer won the eight lap heat race in a good battle with Allen.
Racing resumes next Friday night with the David Tarter Classic. The Winged 360 Sprint Cars will headline the event along with IMCA Sport Modifieds, Street Stocks and Wingless Spec Spints. For further information, go to www.silverdollarspeedway.com.
