I just broke down and bought four new Hoosier G60 tires. In the past I just slapped them on and raced them but I heard that they should be scuffed or ground before racing them. I also read that you should put a heat cycle on them like a practice session before racing. They come new with a lot of the rubber stubbles or mold stems too. I know they will wear out pretty quick from use but is it advisable to grind them down first? Anybody got tips or advice for getting the most out my tires?

Only thing I can say is the 4digit serial number must be facing the inside of the track for the first few heat cycles. Otherwise the bead/sidewall can be damaged. It's on Hoosiers website. I used to run them any wich way and never had any issues. I do at least pull the sticker and lightly grind them befor racing on them.

Grind them a little to remove the mold release agent from the surface. The rest depends on the track surface.

A hot, HOT, lap is fine as track will change pretty fast in the heats! I love to see the tits after a win! Keeping them washed keeps the dirt from sucking the life out when drying! Off the concrete also helps! Some grind every use! Save a good older one for the right rear side if rules don't allow two tire compounds! I came from a time of compounds from O-s to 83-s and used them all as conditions warranted! Never so glad as to see a 53 compound with grooving rule! If you need it do-it!
