Hey
im new to the forum and in the process of building my first street stock car. i need help selecting which spings rates and shocks and cross % to run on the car and any other tips on setup are much needed. im building a 79 camaro leaf spring car. the car must weigh 3000 lbs and we cant run weight jacks of any kind. the track is a 1/4 mile high banked oval with a gumbo surface. the track is shaped like an egg is the best way to describe it. its usually pretty tacky (muddy) during the heats but tends to turn dry slick once the features come around. so changing setups to make the car happy all night will be tough. any help will be greatly appreciated at this point. if you need anymore info just ask and ill do my best to get it.
thank ya

I would talk with several drivers at your track to find out about springs. Read between the lines. Most will try to help but thier numbers will vary.
I would probably start with a 950 RF and a 850 LF. Not sure about the leafs though. Haven't messed with a leaf spring car in twenty years.
Can you run different offset wheels and wheel spacers? Without weight jacks, you will need to use those as well as air pressure to tune the car. Also moving weight around will change the way it handles.
Try to get as much rear precentage as you can. Also try to get around 53-54% LS with the driver in the car.

Good starting point would be 1000lf, 1200 rf, 200rr 225 LR . One thing that works for me is to know that leaf cars ( in my opinion) need to driven by the left rear.

A shock package of straight valve shocks has always worked for us! A 5 on lt. ft. and a 3 on the rt. ft.! This allows for unloading of the left rear while planting rr. going in and quick rebounding of lr. to hook up instantly getting off! A 2" steel adjustable lowering block on the rr. will make adjustments easy with a 3" on the left! Lean the car left to need 52-53 lt. side weight with driver. Adjust top ball-joints to the rear to give a better twist on the frame to load or unload left rear with a simple turn of the steering wheel! You can go from 80lbs. to 120lbs. just turning rt.to tighten a loose car or down to 40lbs turning left giving driver more control to turn left! 6-12 degrees if you can get it! The most weight should be on the weaker lt. ft. to allow for easy compression of a stronger rt. ft. with quick transfer to the right rear. A 100-200lb extra load on the left front! This will help in turning left while rolled over! All this while keeping cross from rt. ft. to lt. rear.
