run a purestock with th350 transmission on 1/4 dirt track. wondering what kind of torque converter I should get. what is the difference in the different stalls? It needs to be stock diameter.
Also, wanted to know what degree thermostat and psi radiator cap you recommend for a 9:1 sbc 350 stock engine.
-Thanks

A stock converter and cap has always won for us and as for as running a thermostat, cutting the guts out of your old one and turning up upside down works too! If lacking on torque on low end I would rater address that issue by changing the timing at that point! Many have theirs pinned and cannot change freely to aid in advantages of low end torque as well as high end horses and lower cranking timing! A 6- 10 change after cranking will wake it up and the other 10 vacuum advance will keep it cleaner for those slow starts with out the expense of a stall converter to go bad! A 28-38 change works great on a 350 engine unless stroked! Piston dwell timing is greater and requires less! A 18-32 or 34max depending on compression and fuels used! Test the pounds of compression to match it with the correct octane fuel! The cooler the engine down to 150 degrees is horses on pump gas! A good curve kit and soft springs with blocks on the movement of both weights and vacuum is needed!

High stall convertors are for drag racing… you want a stock convertor.

TCI Circle Track converter if you want to spend the money, stock if you don't. The lower the stall, the better...
160° stat with 28-32 psi cap. Drill a 3/32 hole in the flange on the stat to let the air out of the manifold when you fill the radiator. Has worked for me for 10+ years.
