While you have to finish to win, protecting your car is best but the driver is more important in both cars as most will agree! Knowing a few facts from years of seeing crashes as a spectator, I feel safe in advising a few safety tips for both drivers and cars! While taking a car out with a wheel hit or just sending him to the rear may un-warrant pay-back it is safest in a crash! A car spinning and bumping it on around may cost you a bad call! By helping him in the infield instead of facing a on-coming head on collision or a wheel to wheel sliding on-comer may be safer for you as well from being hit or simple contact while trying to dodge and being hit yourself! One wheel to bumper crashes will give a softer blow as bumpers give and cars spin! You don't want to hit wheel to wheel by sideways sliding! This is hard on drivers and cars as it is most solid as well as putting a bumper in a driver's door! These two things will break bones and ruin a chassis! While three wheel brakes are used, dodging left is quick to the infield but a right turn requires no braking until his rear corner is missed! Braking and 4 wheel brakes needs a light touch to plant the ft. tires! Turning first is more important than breaking if dodging on 4 wheel brakes and rear steer! Try a few things if hot lapping gives enough room! Learning how your car will respond first and save a driver or chassis! Be safe out there and finish to win!

Hot laps are best used for checking you engine's performance! Seeing what can and does happen during hot laps on a wet track (not fit for racing) gives little clue as to set-ups! I don't recommend them except at intermission or after a race unless checking tune! Even thin if alone, a driver is prone to run harder than in a race and can over-run set-ups and engine rpms to a fault! Most engine problems seem to happen after a really good hot-lap! Some victory laps are the same way! Laps on a engine are used best to win on the last one made!
