Hey guys, new to the forum here and im hoping some of ya'll can help me out here. Trying to get my car ready for the weekend and everything so far is good, except my tranny. Im running a direct drive powerglide with a clutch. I ran it in the car last year until i had motor issues and had to park the car for the season. Now this year with a new motor in the car i went to take it for its first test and the car does not move. Last season if i had it in geared and started the car it would start rolling, this year i start the car and can go through all the gears and it still stays like it is in neutral or park. Im stumped, i havedisconnected the clutch and tried moving the valve to see if it was my clutch pedal and it still didnt move. Any idea on what my problem can be? Just looking to get out to the track with this tranny until i can afford a bert/brinn/falcon....BTW im looking to buy if anyone has one... Thanks in advance for all your help!

Make sure you were in the pump with your drive flange and that the center shaft had not been pulled out and placed else where! Re check your fluid! Drop the pan and check the linkage and S-Hook-up to the shift valve! If a engine locked up in direct drive it could have broken the ft. pump gear! Check end play and snap ring on the drive first! If installed with out pump timing it can bust the ft. pump gear too! Gear sets are matched to housings and have to be a precise fit! We have sheered tranys and rear end gears at one time when running direct drives after a blown engine! Good luck on a simple fix!

Sounds like the linkage has come loose on manual valve. drop the pan to check. You may have to remove the guide plate to be sure it's still hooked up (two bolts). The pin on the rooster comb lever goes in between the first two "spools" on the valve. I don't think there is any S-hook linkage on a PG, pretty sure that's a TH350.
I would think, with a clutch, the thing should move in Low even if there is no pump pressure if the linkage is hooked up right.

If piston clutch push clutch is used instead of dump valve clutch, your hydraulics may not be applying but drive should still lock up if pump is working and linkage is ok! Did you CK to see if the drive shaft is not spinning and the rear end is good to go!

Thanks guys for the help.... i had the car up on jackstands and while the car was running i would rev the engine a little and the driveshaft would spins but not enough to power the car down a road or anything. what i did notice tho was that my pump wasnt pumping, i took the lines off going to the cooler and nothing was coming out when i started the car. So im guessing my pump took a dump.

If you have the right gauge, you can check to see if there is any pressure at the port on the servo cover (front right-hand side of case). That port should have at least 125 psi with the trans in Low. I think it's a 1/8 NPT port.

Did you find out what the problem was?

Had the same problem in a glide w/working converter, debris in the valve body was sticking the solenoid open and not providing enough pressure to clutch plate. This was caused by pump chunking out and sending debris into the valve body.

Thanks for all the info guys, ended up just pulling the trans out and taking it my one of my buddies that works on em. Figure i'll get it fixed and use it for back up. Got a falcon on the way now.
