1979 camaro, stock rear leaf setup, 3500lb with driver, asphalt car. Was thinking of running a panhard bar. Which side should be mounted on frame? What are the advantages of running this? Disadvantages?

I would think that with the axle wrap, which will be little with stock springs, you would increase the angle under throttle if it were mounted in front of the rearend. It could actually force to springs to load on the front as well if the angle was in creased..causing some undesireable effects

Panhard bar on dirt is usually mounted to the frame on the LH side. This way when the angle increases in the bar, it pulles the rear to the left and aides side bite. Not sure how you are going to make that work on a leaf car. What is it that you are trying to accomplish?

Leafs travel up and down. PH bar mounts travel in an arc.
You'll have a binding problem.

I just want some way of stopping the rear from being moved to one side in the corners. any other options to cure this? First time in a leaf car so i'm open to any and all ideas or opinions. Thanks guys.

Thanks guys. The side to side slop is always an issue with Leaf cars. Slider boxes will reduce the slop from the shackles,If its leagal for you to run, but the leafs will always flex and twist, just part of that deal. Dave

We are experimenting with this very thing in our Camaro this year. Both me and the guy driving when I go to sea have a smoother driving style than throwing it in the corner and see what happens.
Talking with a couple of other people that have been racing a long time are helping out with the dynamics of it, we think it will help to make our car more stable into and through the corners without binding. and looking at the other cars we race with, their shakles are bent all sorts of crazy and we hope the panhard bar will keep that from happening. We'll see and I'll keep you posted.
Also, you're running asphalt, it should mount on the RH side of the frame.
Good Luck!

Cool. I look forward to seeing what you found out. Was thinking about putting it in and just going and running some leps to see how it works. See, at our track with your paid membership, we get a key to the track so we can go anytime we want to test and tune during the week or what not. think I might try it, if it doesnt work or help I can always just un bolt it.
Whats the reasoning for a asphalt car being mounted on RH frame and dirt LH?

I have been experimenting with this for a year or two on the exact problem of the front eyes moving side to side, I had my right front eye move to the left and left move to the left, so what I did was cut the rubber bushings flush with the eye, and use very large washers(bigger than front eye) and stagger the front eyes toward the center of the car as much as I could. Making sure the rear end is square in the car it really seemed to increase forward bite, made the front portion stiffer and keep the rear from twisting too much. After that I had some custom aluminum CNC'd to recreate bushings to offset the front eyes, seems to work for me, I do run a little stiffer rear leafs than most do here, 200rr 225lr feels a lot more stable than previous 175/200 cars I have driven, just my .02 oh and on dirt btw

A rear end clamp bracket on the left with mounting even with lower axle tube going to the right frame no more than 1" up or down for effects at frame from level to not bind!
