Between a phenolic 1" spacer/adapter with the holes bored through and an aluminum piece with the bottom opening machined out in a gradual step, which would be better? I like the heat insulation from the wood-looking one but the machined out Flow Design claims to increase power (but it gets as hot as the intake manifold). Which would be the better 2 bbl to 4 bbl adapter? Thanks.

I ran a 1 Phenolic spacer on my 383. It was tapered out from a 2bl to an open 4bl. The taperes spacer promotes better air fuel distribution while increasing air flow through the carb, which is exactly wat you want with a 4412 on a 4bl manifold. It also has better part throttle response which you want for circle track racing. I ran a Super victor manifold that was open underneath so the phenolic adaptor didnt have as much effect for heat as it would on a non open manifold. But I would recomend a tapered spacer, and phenolic is always a good idea in my opinion.

If your intake is geting hot, you need a science lesson on refridgeration. It should get cold at 2500 if you are going to produce horsepower. Cool your engine to 150 and try again!

I've heard the HVH and Wilson are suppose to be the best. I use a HVH spacer. Have problems with it.
Some of the tracks here are letting us E85 fuel. It frost or moisture on your intake and the bottom part of carb. Motor runs a lot cooler!

You will get several different opinions on this subject. The only way to know for sure is to dyno test them. I use the tapered, aluminum one and am pleased with it. I have used the phenolic one before and had problems with the seperating or bending over time.
There are several brands available. Do not use the cast aluminum pieces. If you decide to go with an aluminum part, make sure it is a machined piece. JMO Castings break much easier.

We have ran both also! machined with a taper and a shield will be better!
