Hey guys, you have been very helpful in helping me select parts to build a good competitive Hobby Stock motor, so thank you. Now I have probably the most important decision to make and need some input. Between my partner an me, we have two good sets of heads to put on our flat top 355. Both are in excellent shape with no porting as per the rules and just have good valve job, Ferrea valves and good Comp springs.
One is a set of EQ CH350H Vortec replicas. They actually say these are better than Vortecs because they have more material, plus the "H" means Hybrid which allows them to line up the intake ports perfectly with a regular manifold. Also, they take the old style valve covers but have a much better oil-containing rail. The valve sizes are 1.94/1.50.
The other set is a nice pair of angle plug 340292 Turbo heads which are 64cc and have no heat riser. I read these were the good heads to get over the counter from Chevy back in the day. They have no porting, only good valve job with 2.02/1.60s.
I know the efficiency and the advanced technology of the Vortec design is attractive, but what about the old school proven power of these Turbos that were made for performance. I really need some help on this one guys and I got to button this motor up soon. Really appreciate your input on this.

Vortech, no doubt in my mind. I had vortech for a while befor I tossed a piston and destroyed one, it was by far better than anything "stock" I have used even as a small valve set.

I would say the vortec heads flow better than the 292. Off the top of my head I would use the vortec's. Just my .02

As per changes and flat tops on a small cubic inch if you have headers to fit angle plug, they do run cooler and have bigger valves but you need less CCs for compression. EQs to fit as we have run them on .066 350 with fair results! only had 147 pounds of compression but still managed a few wins with a few legal tricks to power it back up! Angle plug designed for pop-ups! EQ!
