The good - lighter weight The bad - more expensive The ugly - illegal in most classes Some will argue that they are weaker than steel ones (and they are) and will strip out the splines. I'm not saying it never happens, but I've never seen one strip the splines, nor have I ever seen the splines of aluminum drive plates strip out - and a lot of A-mods run the aluminum drive plates. As for the light weight gears, I've seen more failures in the standard weight gears than I have the light weight ones. But I can't say I've ever actually seen a gear failure that was the fault of the gear, most of the ones I've seen were from improper set up, bearing failure, or loss of/low oil.

Never ran an aluminum spool but quick changes come with them as standard. I think they are also 31 spline.
Street, I've seen several aluminum drve flanges stripped out. Usually on Mods though. Most good 9" rears have steel drive flanges.

I ran Alum Spools for years in our 9" Never had a problem. We weighed 3200 and had as much motor as you could get. So If I couldnt break them, they are tough enough.

o.k. running a 355 2 brrl. with a 6.20, so I don't see a heavy shock load. going to give it a try, save about 10 lbs stock the stock locker. plus another 2-3 on the gears.
