Hot is no longer in business. They were bought out by express race cars. I plan on getting an old hot to mess with for a couple years since I still go to sea and will only get a few races in each year.

Depends on the pocketbook...
Hughes, GRT, Shaw are all good cars. The Dirtworks Genesis is still a great car and Jerry is building them again. The standard Hoffman car isn't a bad piece either for a weekly warrior. Kazzbuilt is also a good weekly warrior car. They are all so similar nowadays that it all comes down to what you do with the car itself. Maintenance is speed, keep up on your tire work and shock package and almost any car I've listed will win races.

Still building my own. Love it when they beat the "big name" chassis. Happens every year.

Home built cars, those are the best cars in my opinion. I wish I had the shop space so I could do the same.

I've had 3 WS chassis and very happy with them. Local guy (confused on this board) builds them, not a lot of them out there but they have all won features against some fast cars on some super dry tracks here in Texas.

I think a lot depends on your sanctioning body and their respective rules. Viking, Pierce, Hoffman, Hughes, Shaw, Big Chief, Freedom, Raptor, lazer, and Destroyer seem to be consistently fast, but that's just as attributable to driver skill as it is the chassis. Whatever you choose just make sure that the chassis manufacture is still in business and are willing to talk to you about their recommended baseline setup. If not, then you are going to wind up guessing and that will wind up being hard on you and your equipment.
