new to the bmod class moving up from street stock, building my first mod w/ 3 link coil over in front of rearend suspension running dry/slick 3/8 mile.. 1st question is do yall think the 3 link can compete against the 4 links out there now? i am thinking 600 lf 650 rf sp. 200s across the back, panhard bar, buiscuit pull bar, would like to hear any advice if yall think this will work or not, would like to hear some opinions on a starting point for rear % & left rear bite for a limited horsepower engine approx. 350/400 hp. thanks for any help will be greatly appreciated!!

I ran a three link years ago. I think the three link CAN run with the four bars cars but the advantage of four bar cars is the ability to get through the middle well. The 3 link will suffer through the middle because for me at least, 3 links are a compromise of tight in the middle and forward traction. Four bar cars suffer from this too but the disparity is less. In order to compete with four bars cars, everything else will have to be absolutely perfect.
Assuming Chevelle Stub LF RF 550-650/600-750 150-250/175-350
PH, short straight bar
800lb spring bar
55-60 rear 53-55 left 100-120 LRB
These are pretty generic but so are most other race cars.

thanks for the reply, this is very helpful.. I put 600 l.f 650 r.f, the rear has a 225 L 200 R, thinking about changing the l.r to a 175. I got to get the engine in it before I have any scale #s. I thought the left rear should be stiffer for drive off, but you are the 2nd person to tell me rr stiffer I guess this helps to free the car up??

A stiffer RR usually tightens entry while loosening the middle and exit.
I like a car that is snug on entry and rotates on the throttle.

One of the cars we race is a metric three link car with Coil over springs mounted in the front of the rear. The car will run with the four link cars on most nights. The car started out with the springs on top of the rear, moving the springs in front we had to use a softer pullbar spring. Running a panhard bar I like to put the right side about 2" below the axle tube to get a lot of side bite.
