As you all can probably tell I'm new to the modified and am trying to learn as much as possible. I bought an old dirt works 2 link and I'm running it as a sport mod. I bought this off a guy who was pretty new at the game himself. My question comes to I recently bought a caster camber gauge and checked them I run a 3/8 mile high banked track and the caster is set at +6 1/4 on the left and +12 on the right. I followed the directions that came with my caster camber gauge to measure it. Are these set to high? Dirt works says it should be 1 1/2 lf and 4 rf. What are the benefits or disadvantages of having it set so high? Also camber is set +2 on left and -3 on right does this sound about right?

After rotating the tire did you recenter before taking the reading. Like when you zero with the wheels straight up?

Do you men did I recenter the little vile so the gauge is level? Here is what I did. I pulled the car onto turn plates put my gauge on the hub turned the wheel twenty degrees where the back of the tire was closest to frame centered the long middle vial then turned it twenty degrees the other way and red the caster After I centered the little vial on the end that levels the guage.

If your using Pinto Spindles the machined edge next to the upper ball joint is parallel with the lower ball joint center line. Just put an angle finder on it and get a direct reading.

I have seen people run a bunch of caster, but the real fast guys run a normal split. I would set it up to what Dirt Works has it. Camber is in the ball park. For me a normal base set-up is best. You can always play from there.

If you had that much caster in an old DW the shocks would not go on,, I think you need to recheck the readings,,

I rechecked again today and I have the same readings I followed the directions with my gauge. The upper ball joint is set way back compared to the lower looking from the top son I believe these readings are correct.
The shocks also fit with no problems at all.
I am confused about why someone would want that much caster. I have yet to find anywhere that says that it would improve anything.

People do crazy things all the time, because someone told them it would make them faster, Bla, Bla, Bla. LOL. Its been said may times, and its so true. A good basic setup, done well, is fast in the hands of a good driver. Does that car have the adjustable arms, or fixed A arms?

If you have played with the car on the scales, with the caster set like your stating, it will jack weight around in the car when the tires are turned a specific way. With the upper ball joint behind the lower, when you steer to that side, it will raise the car, thus increasing the weight distribution to that tire and the opposite rear tire.....something to think about I like going into the corners harder, so I used this so if the car started to rotate more than I wanted in the turns, the right front would drop and left front would lift(if it was on the ground) to help get side bite so the car would stick better. jam

Sounds like me! As long as it wins! We have countless old chasses floating around still winning! Went out of state to a big show and ran against 6 and our last years one won! I never change or remove any thing but the motor! It evens the field for our drivers who get tired of just being out front! Gives them respect for what I do! Through the years we have been in the front with 6-12 and still using it to our advantage but it works as a package as does all things! I have to say that all I do including the engine is out there so far that most think I am kidding! Fuel usage, timing, dist. fire power, Cam specs, best not to get me started but it wins! Most hard to believe its all legal and work so well! Horses are my friend as well as hundreds of old worn out tires!
