I have broken two oil pumps since mid season last year. The first pump was a melleing M55HV. Broke by the mount and sheared where the mid shaft connects. I upgraded to a melling select high volume pump and put a bracket on it. This one sheared where the mid shaft connects but the body stayed intact due to the bracket. I'm replacing this one with a moroso high volume, regular pressure pump (40-50 lbs.), time to get away from melling. Any Ideas why the pumps would be breaking at this Point? It is on a sbc 383. There doesn't seam to be any type of bind and there is no wear on the distributor gear.

Look at the Moroso before you put it on, from what I know they are a Melling body design as well.

Dist. shaft set height incorrect and putting undue loads on the oil pump shaft?

Tight engine clearances and oil restrictors do not need extra volume or pressure! It only robs power! Check all dist. drives as a 400 or stroked engine is different than stock 350 drive center clearance wise! Lower sleeve is required. Open the pump and check for shaft and gear bind as to know your not tit for tat! Have needed three gaskets on the dist. before! Install with none to check!
