You need a bump steer gauge and then follow the directions to get the bump steer as close to zero as you can. We set our birdcages at zero on our Victory Chassis. You can call Smiley tech support to see what say or Kevin Shaw also.

Birdcage indexing is a chassis builder's prefernce. I like to have mine set at 0 for the RR and 1.5* for the LR. Meaning the top is forward.

With my old school thinking I look at the settings as to leveling as rolled to provide even traction and steer with the car level and then leaning left to check where they went to check theories of operations! Up or down, right or left will move all, even stock cars ft and rear where it needs to be unless designed other wise! Ft tie rods should level as rolled to add toe out in the turns unless caster and camber is out of its working range to go with this design! I can honestly say that once set I have never had issues as to both ft wheels are rolling straight ahead always without bind, if enough rear steer is used and setting the front while blocked as to roll. I have never needed a gauge to do so, but many have checked my work to be at the most 1/2 off what I had written down first! A good eye and theory that works with-out the headache! Tire wear and heat factors can only give you a true reading of where yours needs to be per car!
