Hello DF, My name is Steven and I am new to DF! I'm new here as well as new to the dirt modified life. I recently picked up a "Streight" Snow Built "70's Chevelle" B-Mod, but as seen in picture below (illustration 2) the front bumper was heavily damaged. I have been looking at pre-fabricated front bumpers but my front frame ends (outside to outside length is 44 7/8 or 45". My problem and what I need help is this. the biggest pre-fabed bumper i found is 40" I have found 44" W/ 5" flat plate to weld straight onto frame ends, but I like the look and funtionality of the outside mounted bumpers. I have looked and looked and I have seen some specs on early 70's stating that the (outside to outside) frame width on the front frame end is 39" and i have seen the the mid 70's are 40" where is this other 4" coming from could it be bent outward? Seems rather odd. If anyone has any information or any ideas regarding replacement of the front bumper That would be greatly appropriated.
Another note: the USRA b-mod rules state in their body detentions and specs (illistration 1) under dimensions illustrated as N says, "Maximum 40" (Must be inside bumper braces)" With my current width at 44" wouldn't this place me outside spec? Now as I said before I am new to all this so bare with my ignorants
Thank you, Steven (Pics Below)

The chassis builers that I know of cut off the outside of the frame and plate it. This will give you the mount style you are looking for. That's what I do on my cars also. Weld on bumpers are a PAIN! Just cut off the outside, gind it flat and plate it. All it takes is a little time and sweat.

Thanks Confused, that was the plan, but I wasn't sure if I could modify the frame there and stay legal. I figured I would consult more knowledgeable people. Thanks for a prompt reply.

WHILE WITH-IN LEAGLE LIMITS IN WEIGHTS AND HEIGHTS WITH RIDE HEIGHTS SET, AFTER PLATING, A BOLT ON BUMPER WITH ANGLE IRON ATACHED WITH 2 HOLES TO BOLT ON TO A FRONT MOUNTED ANGLE BRACKET WITH HOLES CAN BE SAFER AND QUICKLY CHANGED IF DAMAGED AT THE TRACK. 4, 3/8" GRADE 5 BOLTS WILL WORK AND IF BUMPER IS OUTSIDE WILL SAVE FRAME DAMAGE IF CRASHED! I HAVE RE-DESIGNED FT BUMPERS TO LOOSE FT WEIGHT AND GAIN A FULL ONE PERCENT TO THE REAR WHILE STAYING WITHIN THE RULES!
