Hello DF, I'm new here and to the world of dirt modifies, so bare with me if I ask a stupid question as I am use to IMCA Hobby/Street Stock rules. So Usra Bmod section 7.5 (steering) states the following; 7.5 Steering: 7.5.1 Must be OEM and remain within original bolt pattern for type of frame used. 7.5.2 Rack and pinion is not allowed. 7.5.3 May be modified to suit driver, but must remain on left side of cockpit (no center steering). 7.5.4 Quick-release metal coupling on steering wheel is mandatory. Plastic couplings are not allowed.
So it states must remain OEM but obviously a 72" steering shaft is not OEM for this chevelle frame. so with that said is it allowable to rune a 2:1 steering quickener? or is it more acceptable to cut modify re-weld the tie rod mount on the hub for quicker steering.
Just curious if a steering quickener is legal in these rules. There are so many gray areas in usra.
Thanks , Steven

7.5.1 is referring to the steering box, and how it mounts to the frame. 7.5.3 "May be modified to suit driver" would allow you to alter the shaft and install a quickner. You can always use an OEM style box that has been internally quickened.

3 Different boxes as to strength will bolt up! Lines fitting will adapt and pit-mans may vary in spline diameter, off-set, drag linkage hole and length! A performance spool valve can add to steering power! A 605 metric is the lightest if round on top as a 4 bolt is stronger up top the lower shaft is still of weaker nature. Stock is heaver but most durable when running spindle savers that add to pitman shaft stress! Make it a point not to crash with wheels turned all the way! A bumper to rear wheel in a heavy crash may seem brash but is safest for drivers and cars as to weight transfer and movement! Be safe out there and finish to win!
