Need a little help guys. Sbc 350 hydraulic cam and comp lifters. Been breaking the retainers holding the lifters together. We changed from 1.5 to 1.6 rockers, 6 races later went to adjust valves and found 5 lifters broken. Changed lifters ran hot laps and rechecked 4 broken lifters, changed lifters and rockers (back to 1.5) during intermission ran main and checked them again. 1 broken lifter. We are stumped. Not the same lifters everytime HELP. THANKS

I think I would try a better brand of lifter, doesnt sound like the ones you run can handle the RPM's

they were comp 858's we have ran them for years with never a issue we do turn around 6700 we were thinking maybe a bad batch but they had 25 races before starting breaking when we changed them at the track we put in comp 812's (new) which do have a wire retainer on them

I tried running 1.6 rockers on a 350 with stock heads and found that the push rod holes in the heads had to be elongated. Not sure if this helps.

that is why we changed back to 1.5 we thought it might be rubbing except no wear marks on pushrods. and it still happened

Are you breaking the tie bars or the small clip holding the guts in the lifters?
You can upgrade to snap rings(local hardware store} for pennies and set lash to -.oo2 so the retainer isn't being beaten on if your currently running 0 lash. If the tie bars are breaking then check cam end play. The lifter may not but centered on the lobe.

Breaking the clips that hold the guts in first 2 sets had the the good clips holding them in the 3rd set were just the wire clips. It could possibly be cam walk but it does have cam button with a nice 2 piece alum timing chain cover. We ran this motor 20 some races with no problems then Bam lifter issues . Wish I could come up with a cause before I tear it down hate to rebuild and still have a issue thanks

425 LIFT. Springs are good. No sticking of the lifters. Getting good oil thru pushrods compression check is good thanks stamped snap rings have 2 side to them since they are a stamping. one side the edge is rounded and on the other side is the edge is sharp and you want the sharp side up in a lifter to get a better bite. same for them in pistons as the sharp side should be towards the outside

Hydraulic lifters have to be adjusted down away from the top! I like to run mine at .020 off the bottom! If your valve springs are not with-in your RPM range, they could be pumping up! Wrong adjustment most likely!
