406 f with ported 461 heads vs 355 w vortecs. Both 12.5:1 range. 4412 carb on both. Is it an even race? Half mile one week and 3/8 the other. I know the details are vague but I should get an idea.

Not always! While winning with both on quarter mile tracks, gears changes would be in order! In my drag racing days I once beat a 440 6 pack Roadrunner with my 283 SS Impala with greater odds than I care to explain! Even all the way down the track but I only had to shift once to his two! Gears ratios won for me! After looking at my little orange motor, he stomped his hat, walked off and loaded his drag car back on his fancy trailer and left! I changed rear tires and drove my street car home as well as work 60 miles a day! I love dirt as things seem more even with IMCA in control!

I did the same thing on the street with a 350 against a 440 6 pack. Dude was tiiiiiicked off.
Seems like the trend around here is guys running the 355 and such and twisting the ever loving crap out of them. I found out the hard way I can't do that with my 400 s.

Sure you can, the process is the same! I know a guy turns his 454 vet 9300! High compression is the killer to bottom ends as it rages and leaves left-overs to mass produce in heat expansion! You have to get the burn to go as a match to charcoal to match light to lighter fluid and back in order to keep up with piston speed all the way down instead of a fire-cracker up top! Lower timing and three stage fuel! Like all the horses Hydrogen gives as it burns everything! You use all the stroke with the fuel burn speed that puts little pressure on the bottom end! Its a blessing to fuels of all kinds!
