I for one run no extra rod end play or crank bearing clearances! .002 and .004 seems to require fast attention and extra horses to ensure its use! Heavier oils that have to be pumped and oil weight that has to be slung off only to be flooded from behind! Some spend good money for light weight rotating parts only to add it right back with high volume pumps! Extra clearances allowing more flow and the need of high volume pumps, pans, and special pickups! If a break-in change is needed, wear has taken place and as no moving parts should be touching having been coated with oil during build up, I would have cleaned and polished better as everything is new and round and does not have to wear in! One preheat to normal and cool to let the oil soak in the metal pours is a good thing! I also use trany fluid as a top lube full time as not to wear anything! Most heat is from piston skirt scrub and a beveled bottom edge will keep the oil from being shaved off on the down stroke! Giving a little more room for that oil helps keep it centered and if ever over heated, room to expand with-out scuffing the skirts and cylinders! I do wet-sand my cams ,clean and dry before coating with oil! some have a protective coating that has to be removed before oil can soak in! I file and polish every moving part to insure no wear in is needed! Pouring your filter out onto white paper will give signs of failure! 77 bearings seem to work best as to the brass giving you a wear signal! It is best to look and not just change the filter!
