If you've had enough and looking forward to ham or something a bit sweeter, its time to consider your set-up! We stick to traditional things as others do but good taste has a recipe all its own! Start by learning the basics instead of catering to casserole hell that always needs a little more of something! Life is not all falling snow and candy if you have chassis issues that eludes your Christmas list! Loosening the belt is not going to help either situation but it feels better like most adjustments do! Getting somewhere requires a bit more hard work and dedication to the problems at hand! How to tighten your set up for better traction but feel loser by steering correctly is not adding more notches to the belt but by putting the weight where it belongs to get the job done! You have to start with the core to be able to shift the load to the rear for added traction! Once you tip the scales in your favor the rest is not a up hill climb but a smooth downward roll of the right side! Holding a steady weight then allows for a bit of variation in the feed while maintaining traction! The exercise of jumping up and down and trying hard to get more pounds is now over! You can now get by with less movement but more transfer of what you already have! You don't have to be out of shape to get the pounds off the corner! Loosing the pounds of down-force and drag is all in keeping the balance of thrust headed forward with out the up that causes it to start with! Your chassis is actually more hooked with less drag to move more freely! While we can't measure the difference, you can feel it and your times will prove it! Ours did for years!

Most have to blame not winning on something to justify coming back to try again! The track conditions, driver mishaps, not enough motor or chassis failure by means of missing the set-up! Going to many tracks just to un-seat the champ wasn't about just winning! It was a test of the range of a winning set-up! I see them scurry to change all sorts of things at the big races to improve as the track conditions change! I look for another grilled pork chop or a slice of cake! I'm not saying that we don't go prepared to do so but the decision of change requires more than just a look at the track or what the driver says as to the car reacting properly! Just let him call a few last minute changes and see the effects of a pound of air or a round or two spring or shock changes! Close still is not the range of useable that wins! You have to have setting of fast high or low, slow or fast and over your head if you have too! Making it work better in one category is not going to be awesome in all but the starting points and range limits can be preset from either side of the finish line! You can't start out in the middle of working good and expect it not to change more than needed! Even fuel weight the last few laps can make or break a good setup so don't blame it on the tires or track but the factors not considered in pre-settings way back down to the bare frame before it hit the scales or left the shop! I never stopped to even think about adding a few pounds yesterday or today to my setup if it cures all the hunger pains of driver wants and chassis needs!!!

We search for broader ranges with narrow limits in most all things related to motion and power! The pinning of the timing is by far the narrow range of broad limits I can think of! We try to move everything on the chassis and inside the engine but HEY us just leave this one of most importance out because of the lack of known control of the rest! Sure you might have it where it needs to be but what about the rest of what puts it to that spot! Do they build the engine to fit this spot to make the DYNO happy? Do you pile all the peanut butter in one spot and just spread the jelly because it is easier? Is your first bite as good as your last or do you have to wash it down from lack of spread! I prefer to limit bite to all I want and need to move quickly and gain the motion of peaking instead of having it stuck to the top with no milk in sight! I am just saying if you can't have your foot on the floor, what good are those horses doing for you now??? And if in the middle of that range to get a peak, how many are you not getting later by shifting the load range by timing change to match burns and piston speeds! You don't always have to eat dessert last or first, I sometimes like a bite in the middle!!!

LEFT OVERS--- I do my best not to leave anything on the table when it comes to food but inside a engine with more than you can use it leaves you with two options! Freeze it for later time or have the same again soon but not now please! If having to weight on things to get a bite, dessert may not be a option! Having all the good stuff is about timing it to fit the load and need! We all heap on the horses but seldom have use for them all at once! The spread is most important as a meal in courses, most are running a soup kitchen with locked timing as the main meal is forced down! A varied range may provide better answers to hooking your car than throwing dinner out the window along with a good set-up that works great other wise to provide drivability!!!

If you don't follow all the post in other classes than your own, you may be missing out a few details of a better concept of getting things done!!! We need more input to get more out of it all!!!

Is it the turkey behind you that is making you slow as Christmas by bumping and getting his nose under you, forcing you to race with him instead of driving you line? If you can't out motor him it is well advised to out drive him with a more drivable set-up! You will be surprised how much faster your motor will run when the chassis is free to go where ever you send it instead of over steering, binding from excessive roll out, or just no right drive to push you left!!! You may even have to change to higher gears if bumping the chip a little now! Not to worry though, most engines run better against a load once tuned for it and it will hold the peak better while picking up speed faster when set free!!!
