I awoke feeling old this morning----- like another second place finish---like number three rod bearing on a fast but lean Chevy 350 motor--- like a low tire on the right rear after the race---like a left rear leaf spring after ten races--- like seat belts and a fire suit used for years---like too much left rear to get a bite--- like good caster gone to waste----like a right lower bar that never got used---like a left front spring dropped for no reason all season----like a bar of lead over the differential---like engine burn timing that is too slow--- like a steering quickener ran two seasons on low pressure---like a over heated engine on the white flag lap---like a outer wheel bearing on the right front --- like a ring gear on a limited---like the left front brake pad on a 112 inch hobby stock--- like the long line at concessions---- like the 3 hr. AM drive back home from out of town with two flats--- like -----OH WAIT---I HAVEN"T HAD MY COFFEE YET!!!-------How many cups does it take to transfer you load???

Set ups today aren't new, we ran most 30 years ago but not for long! Things and trends in racing tend to cycle! We stayed with what others past up three times in the cycle! It never failed that ever who wins has it right until it got to us! We just had to be cheating in some way because there was no way old-school could be better or that fast! I think the most fun was being in tech with them looking for the Nitrous, dropping the stock pan to only find more stock parts! It gets old being thought of as lairs and cheats when hard work is what paid off! Sure we got out ran by larger cubes than the rules allowed but you still had to out maneuver us or use better strategies! Luck played a part too but most drivers make their own to be able to finish that most important last lap! Just being there and seeing was believing for most fans as they did there own tech after the races were over! Some times it was more of a show if we couldn't win as most have never seen a car work the track that well! Having a bad call and getting to come back seemed more fun at times! Even just winning gets old when cautions keep you from lapping the field! You might as well stay home with no cars to race with out front! At least the drivers got to watch the other side of the race from 1/2 a lap ahead or if taken out early by others! It can be lonely at the top and that gets old fast!

Being the old guy with all these new technologies of to day in place you might think I'm out of touch but we are not talking flat heads and babbitt when the red line appears! I have cast and shimmed a few and even cut off a piece of my leather belt to make it run again! Even made stud girdles out of blue hose and zip ties, we ran them a whole season not so long ago! Knowing how and what will work and what you have to have to get by or improve is how us old guys got this far today! I can only hope some-one pays attention enough to question something if it seems of interest as to being faster before I kick off!!! What are you lacking in your time frame as to staying on top of your tune or chassis design in set-ups???

Is your set-up starting to feel a bit old or repetitive in its needs or the finishes you have? You might take a closer look at your opinions of what's happening and get involved in having corrections instead of adjustments! Most any issue can be traced back to a flaw in the set-up core that has been mask by too many off sets in correction! Chasing things back to the frame movement of springs can clear most things a bit! It gets old changing this or that to get by but if getting past the muck and looking at the cause you can find many answers! Some can seem so simple once back at the core! Most are amazed at how their understanding of it all falls together once on the right path!
