It has 6" rods and hyper flat top pistons, .600 .600 lift roller cam, roller lifters, roller tip rockers, victor Jr. high rise aluminum intake and a 750 Holley double pumper carb. I'm wanting to use a set of Dart cast iron 230's 64cc 205/160 valve angle plug heads. Would this enough engine to compete on a 1/4 to 3/8ths track? The car is a 3000lb. street stock. I figure i will competing against some 400's and wondering do i need to go with the bigger cubes to keep up.

You never know how a engine or chassis will compete until on the track!!! When going from mods to limited and going by the rules to find out how fast they were with so many rules and a stock frame class, we just put a .066 350 by the rules! This was mid season and it flew! Not all engines run the same every time! I put every other effort into it I could think of with all that moved! If they are behind on tune you may have a chance by getting the chassis, gear and engine tune correct! Combos are the edge!

Yes flip you have a good point. All things coming together makes it work. I am going to keep this 388 back for a spare and go with at least a 406. Running on 8 inch tires in a 3000 lb. car Doesn't need a mind blowing amount of h.p.. I have been doing some talking to other drivers and motor builders to help me to decide which direction to go and believe i can get her up front.

I have found many things believed to produce power to also rob some in one way or another! Keep as it cool as you can no matter the fuel to make more horses! It will need good vacuum to vaporize and keep it condensed until the valve closes! I have done a lot of crazed things to make theories work but as long as winning with less has proved, it had some merit in the trying the ever so nutty but functional! Most may not have had the opportunities to try so much if just able to go and buy what was sold! Glad to be of help in any way I can as far as tune on engine or chassis! Its good to have all the horses and detune for what it can handle for the speed as it returns! No substitute for cubes or rear percentage with transfer! Once pulling both ft. wheels then detune the chassis too! Good luck on your new year!

Some tracks are moving towards a rear percentage rule! I talked to a old guy that had a good set-up by going longer on wheel base and moving the engine forward to keep rear pounds but less percentage! A tri-state champ for 7 years with old school know how! A lot of things may not be common knowledge but common sense to get it done! Looking forward to see how others hook up their horses with 52 rear and no spoilers! I see a need for a new Chevy oil pan design in the future or a trend towards more Ford (lighter) engines!!!
