I am looking to get about 10-20 more horsepower out of my stock class figure 8 car without emptying my pockets to do it. We are almost there to our first feature win we just need a little more to get there. I have a 74 monte carlo with a goodwrench 350 and a th350 trans. Running a gm 8.5 rear end with 342 gears and I cant run any lower than 342. any idea's would be very appreciated. thanks!!

Up the octane and timing to match--- dist. upgrade in search but you will need bigger jets if more fire power! Run a few searches to find most all my tricks!!! PLENTY there to be found easily!!! Last GM crate engine won first night out with only my dist. and carb on it!!! Surprised even me-- just wanting to keep our point on top!!!

thanks for the reply! my only problem is I cant run high octane fuel in my class and my jets are as big as allowed. my timing is already set at about 30 so if I up it anymore im worried im going to get the motor to hot. what you think?

Can you run top lube and are they testing the fuel? 30----is your weights locked or not 38 most any 350 and work on your cooling system and restrict the air filter with a extra bra-- its like 2 jet sizes on our K&N filter! More oil can do the same but be consistent with this! You have to read a plug to know --search this!!! Been there on this 93 octane and check your compress in pounds to be correct on your fuel match! Who sets your jet size limits? ??

Its a lube to minimize wear in an engine when fuel is dry from running too lean or too rich that it washes the cylinders down and causes wear from lack there of! Valve guides and rings are the first to suffer! I use automatic trany fluid as it also burns clean, reduces friction and adds tremendous power in the burn cycle at the right crank timing! Stroke related timing! Ign. is a bit harder to get going as to the burn and even with my dist. and fuels up grades, my ign. timing has to be raised greatly to run this mix--- but it does pay off at the flag-stand for us!!! A bit more technical as to keeping a constant but with the added cooling effects more jetting is needed as you go along raising the timing and getting more horses as you go! The only way to see what is happening inside is to read the hottest cylinder--#3 and have at least a bit left over after the burn as not to run lean! You should have at least 3 wet threads of oil lube on the plug from where it seats to the head back towards the cylinder at any time you chose to check it! Now cold or next week hot or cold, it will be there!!! Run a few searches to get more info on this if needing and wanting more Horses by outside design of a engine!!!

I am late to this 'party. Dont run a high volume oil pump, run a standard oil pump with a high pressure spring. It can heat up your oil and cause parasitic drag to your engine. You will need a high volume pump IF your engine specs are real loose. If your clearances are where they should be, you wont need a high volume pump. Run a reduction water pump pulley, with a good shroud and four blade stock GM fan blade. If running a holley 4412, 74's on the main jet is pretty close. Check vacuum at idle and 1/2 the number for the power valve value. 8 psi idle would be a 4 power valve. Make sure it is on the idle circuit. Have about .020 idle slot showing, if it wont idle drill the holes in plate one size bigger, till the engine idles right. use and orange cam and put a 30 shooter it it, use 30cc volume accelerator. Proper set up carb will wake an engine up. Timing; better the head the less timing you will need. 487-993 heads use 38* at 3000 rpm. weld the timing tab all the way advanced. Use the switch, pump it twice spin engine over THEN flip the switch on. these are some things you can use to get a few more horses out of an engine. moldy
