Hallmark $2000 Wingless Sprint Winner In Exciting Night At Coos Bay Speedway
Coos Bay, Oregon...July 16...On the heels of last week's WST Sprint Car Speedweek race, Coos Bay Speedway racing returned on Saturday night for an action packed show that included an appearance from the Wingless Sprint Tour. The show also featured an exiting thrill show, complete with cars crashing through fire and rolling and a Fireworks Show to cap the evening. With $2000 on the line, Lance Hallmark surprised the Wingless Sprint Car field with his win in the 30 lap Main Event. Wayne Butler returned to the winner's circle in the 25 lap Sportsman Main Event. Hornet point leader Jeremiah Reiber won their 25 lap Main Event, and Ryder Johnson scored the victory in the 20 lap Mini Outlaws feature.
There were 18 Wingless Sprint Cars, including five locals who removed their wings to compete. Johnathan Jorgensen cracked the 13 second barrier with a 13.890 lap to set quick time. Rob Lindsey was second quick at 14.055. Top 3 ranked Winged Sprint Car racer Lawrence Van Hoof represented the locals well with his four lap Trophy Dash win ahead of Lindsey. Tim Alberding won the first eight lap heat race ahead of Lance Hallmark. Brad Rhoades held of Lindsey to win the second heat and Lindsey Barney won the final heat ahead of local point leader Dave May. Come Main Event time, Lindsey gave it a good run, but Hallmark drove a great race for the impressive victory. Van Hoof was the top local in third ahead of Cottage Grove Limited Sprint racer Cooper Desbiens, Barney, Alberding, Scott Fox, Jorgensen, Nathan Johnson and Duke Johnson.
A light Street Stock turnout saw the division run with the Sportsman class. Siewell managed to set the fast time of 15.803, beating the 15.923 of Russ Blean. Butler won the Trophy dash ahead of Siewell. Coming off of last week's second place finish to Siewell, Butler turned the tables on him and won the Main Event by over a half-lap ahead of Siewell. The Street Stock of Jeff Krossman was third. Brody Montgomery and Blean were fourth and fifth before the Street Stock of Justin Krossman. Rounding out the order were Tim Young, Josh Kralicek and Land.
Hornet point leader Jeremiah Reiber continues to roll. He began his grand slam performance with a fast time of 18.022, beating the 18.475 of his nearest point rival Jeremy Beard. Reiber won the Trophy Dash ahead of Tom Williams and won his heat ahead of Robert Vandre. Jason Greer just beat Beard back to the line to win the other heat race. Reiber has been practically unstoppable in this division this year, and he won the Main Event by over a straightaway. Greer drove a great race for a season best second place finish as Sam Taylor, Hannah Robinson and Beard were the final lead lap finishers in the Top 5. Vandre took a checkered flag in sixth, followed by Brian Barklow, William Hitner, Williams and David Stevenson.
Ryder Johnson started the night off for Mini Outlaws with a fast time of 17.544, beating the 17.747 of Samuel Talon.
